Heather King

Heather King is a full Professor of English at the University of Redlands in Southern California. Her research interests center on Eighteenth-Century British Literature, with a focus on gender, economics, women’s writing, theatre, and the novel. She teaches courses in the eighteenth-century, women’s literature/images of women, Shakespeare in adaptation, children’s literature (including Fairy Tale Adaptation), comic books, and a seminar on Harry Potter.  She has published on eighteenth-century topics, such as  “Picturing Virtue in Frances Burney: What Cecilia Teaches and What Camilla Learns,”  in Beyond Sense and Sensibility, Bucknell University Press., (2014); pedagogical topics, such as  Shakespeare in the Restoration Theater: “Staging” Assignments.” Digital Defoe: Studies in Defoe & His Contemporaries 3.1 (fall 2011); and children’s literature: ”Harry Potter and the Invisible Hand: Entrepreneurship for Profit and Fun” (in Imaginative Literature in Capitalism and Commerce: Perspectives on Business from Novels and Plays, from Lexington Books, forthcoming).  She received her B.A. with honors from Boston University, and her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
